This presentation will debut a new ‘stack’ sculpture by Angela Bulloch, whose work spans many forms, all of which manifest a fascination with systems, patterns and rules, and the creative territory between mathematics and aesthetics. In her most recent body of work, ‘Stacks’, each vertical structure of stacked rhomboids offers a distinct rhythm created by variations in shape, size, and colour. The powder coated surfaces are painted in a combination of light and dark colours, creating the optical illusion of pushing and pulling planes. Designed using a digital imaging program, each stacked rhombus appears at once distinct, yet simultaneously related to others within the group of works. The scale and digital aesthetic of Bulloch’s sculpture acutely contrasts the rich tactility of Mai-Thu Perret’s ceramics. These works visualise Perret’s ongoing exploration of women’s histories, ancient civilisations and their ‘new age’ interpretation through invented relics and the fusion of traditional, artisanal and spiritual practices with postmodern aesthetics. Other highlights include works by Serge Attukwei Clottey, who is newly represented by the gallery and will have an exhibition at our London space in early 2023. Clottey primarily employs found materials from his hometown - Accra, Ghana - to create a dialogue with his city’s cultural history and identity.

Simon Lee Gallery is also pleased to announce Paulina Olowska’s new book Her Hauntology, published at the close of her exhibition of the same name at Kistefos Museum, Jevnaker, Norway and available to purchase at Simon Lee Gallery’s booth at Paris+ and online.
