The gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of early works by Alighiero e Boetti. Pasquale Leccese has selected sixteen works that highlight the development of the themes and interests of Boetti from the mid 1960s to the 1980s. Running through the exhibition one can see his interest in different ways of classification, and how their presentation can affect so much of how they are interpreted. Much of the work of Boetti questions such accepted means of interpretation: he was interested in the way that interventions in normal presentation could create a whole variety of different meanings and possible interpretations.

The exhibition also shows the broad range of themes that related to Boetti’s fascination with classification, and the many media he used to express his ideas. It includes pieces that are seminal to his oeuvre, such as the Book of the Classification of Rivers, Mappa from 1989, and the wood board pieces made in the 1960’s that linked him with Italy’s Arte Povera movement.
